Saturday Night Award's Ceremony and Presidential Address Reception

In lieu of the traditional banquet-style Awards Ceremony and Presidential Address, this year the Awards Ceremony and Presidential Address will be followed by a special reception in the Hotel Lord Elgin's Pearson Room on Saturday, October 16th. The reception will feature a large array of "Canadiana" specialty hors d'ouveres, a cash bar, and music. Tickets for the reception are 40 dollars for regular members and 25 dollars for students. You can purchase your reception tickets when you register online. Only a limited number of tickets will be available for sale at the conference.

Editor’s Session

The Editors and Editorial Board of Ethnohistory invite proposals for an invited Editors’ Session to be held at the 2010 meeting in New Orleans. We are looking for a proposal that closely mirrors the theme of the conference “Creating Nations and Building States: Past and Present,” which will involve representatives from several regions and disciplinary orientations exploring a common theme. The successful proposal will be published as a special issue of the journal. Completed papers will be due within six months of the meeting. The session should consist of 6-8 papers. In order to for a session to be considered for the Editor’s Session, please submit a session proposal, including a session abstract and abstracts of individual papers, by the May 1st deadline through the online submission process. Be sure to check the box at the bottom of the online form that you would like your session to be considered. Submissions not accepted for the Editors’ Session will be considered for inclusion in the regular program without prejudice.

Student Travel Grants

The ASE will provide a limited number of small grants to help defray travel expenses for graduate students to resent paper at the annual meeting; these may vary in amount but will generally not exceed $500.

The award is only open to those students who have already had their papers accepted by the program. Applicants should be ASE members, but do not have to be admitted to Ph.D. candidacy.

The selection committee will consider the quality of the research and the ethnohistorical focus of the topic, based on a letter of support accompanying this application. Preference will be given to those applicants who have not previously been awarded an ASE Student Travel Grant.
